MOSTLY EDITIONS BY ARTISTS EMERGING IN THE 1990’S
During the early 1990s the established art edition publishers cut back or stopped producing prints by younger artists. This was both a function of the still suffering art market and the fact that many younger artists moved away from painting, and in increasing numbers worked in sculpture, installation based art, and variations on 1960s conceptual art. For these artists, multiples became the logical edition form of choice. They self-published and/or were published by alternative art spaces and art galleries. By the mid 1990s the multiple became ubiquitous and nearly reached its 1960s popularity. This is a selection from a collection assembled throughout the 1990s.
